Most people listen with the intent to reply No thought of asking the 'how?' or the 'why?' They'll nod and they'll smile they'll feign interest In truth their intent is to give you THEIR best THEIR version (much better) they'll advance without pause No need to enquire of you and of yours No sense of good manners no sense of respect No passing enquiry no plea to reflect Regurgitation of tales of their yore "Oh yes I recall you've told us before....." But with ears made of cloth, p'raps clogged up with wax They cannot but help to spew out their facts "Then I said and she said and this bloke I know……." And you sit and you listen just wanting to go. My life holds no value that they recognise? Is their innate response a sign they despise, Disagree, disapprove, or just have no care To say 'do continue, I'm keen that you share'? For a while you can take it For a while you don't mind Just let them keep rolling Although it's a bind But when there's no change and the traffic keeps coming When drumming your fingers and obvious ho-humming Do nought to stem the flow of their views No questions are offered to ask of your views It's time to give up its time to just sigh At the people who listen with the intent to reply.
